Alex Iwobi has expressed his sadness following the impending departure of Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger.

Last month, the 68-year-old announced that he will be leaving the Emirates Stadium outfit after 22 years in charge.

The former Monaco boss joined the Gunners in 1996 and helped the club to three Premier League, seven FA Cup and Community Shield titles.

Iwobi broke into the first team in 2015 under the guidance of the French tactician and has become a key figure for the club. This season, he has made 23 league appearances, scoring twice.

And the Nigeria international is hoping the Gunners can finish high at the end of the term to give the gaffer a deserved send-off.

"It's a bit depressing and a bit sad for me -- he [Wenger] has done a lot for me in a short time in my career," Iwobi told ESPN.

"We're going to try and give him the right send-off he deserves and end the season on a high and do our best for him."

Arsenal will slug it out with Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Uefa Europa League outing on Thursday evening as they continue their chase for a trophy this season.
