After getting his clearance from Orlando Pirates , defender Marc van Heerden says he will know about his future in the next couple of days.

The Soweto giants released a statement on Monday confirming that the left back has been released from his contract.

Despite joining Pirates in January last year, the former AmaZulu defender failed to command a regular place in the starting eleven, and he often deputised for Innocent Maela and Thabo Matlaba as well as Mthokozisi Dube.

However, speaking to Goal on Monday, the Johannesburg-born defender said his agent Mike Makaab of ProSport International is working hard to secure his future.

The Soweto giants announced that there was a meeting between the club and Van Heerden’s representatives last week to find a solution on the player’s future and both parties agreed to amicably part ways.

Moreover, the arrival of Paseka Mako from Chippa United left the man also known as ‘Sdumo’ with no options, but to seek for regular football elsewhere.

He confirmed to Goal that he is the one who asked to be released from his existing deal and wanted out of the Buccaneers camp.

“I wanted to leave, it’s what I wanted. We came to a mutual agreement and I am in Johannesburg at the moment,” Van Heerden told Goal .

“My agent, Mike Makaab is busy with negotiations with a few PSL clubs, but we should have some sort of clarity in the next couple of days,” concluded the defender.

Although he could return to the Chilli Boys as Mako’ possible replacement, the Bafana Bafana left-back has no preferences for now, according to Makaab.

He said it is early days to talk about the player’s next destination, but said they will find him a new club.

“We have nothing yet because we have just secured his clearance by mutual agreement and will now start looking at opportunities for him,” said Makaab.

“He has no preferences as to where he wants to play his football. It is still early days but it’s all about getting regular game time,” added the former coach.

After joining the Soweto giants in January last year, Van Heerden managed to make two appearances in the Premier Soccer League as well as a single appearance in the Telkom Knockout Cup last season.
