That's all from us here and it has been a great pleasure talking you through all of today's action from St. James' Park. We hope you can join us again very soon. Take care!
Jordan Ayew scored a stunning second-half strike to end Newcastle United's winning run in a closely-fought 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at St. James' Park. Fabricio Coloccini had gave the Toon the lead and Steve McClaren's men missed numerous chances to kill the game, before the Villans rescued a point.
FULL TIME: NEWCASTLE UNITED 1-1 ASTON VILLA
The fourth official on the touchline has indicated that a minimum of three minutes is being added on here at St. James' Park as Veretout bends in a free-kick, which bypasses all of his team mates.
BIG CHANCE! Sissoko powers into the penalty area and cuts the ball back towards Perez, who drags a shot just over the crossbar from inside the penalty area. Newcastle are pushing for a late winner here.
SAVE! Veretout bends in a corner towards the head of Gestede who heads towards goal powerfully, but Elliot is equal to it as he tips the ball over the crossbar for another Villa set play.
Gestede chests down Guzan's long punt forward and that sets the Villans on the breakaway inside Newcastle's half. The Villa striker has changed the match completely since coming off the bench.
A. Westwood
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
Westwood picks up a cheap booking from the referee as he tries to enter the field of play without his signal. The midfielder looks confused by the decision on the touchline.
Both sides are pushing for a winner here at St. James' Park and it's difficult to call who looks the more likely to score. Good chances are being created at either end of the field at the moment.
Veretout gives the ball away and that sets Perez off and running. But as the Spaniard tries to drive into a pocket of space in front of Villa's defence, Sanchez clips his heels and hands the hosts a free-kick.
J. Ayew
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
Ayew becomes the second Villa man to pick up a booking in a matter of minutes. Garde needs his players to just keep their heads now as we approach the business end of the affair.
Thauvin surges down the left flank past Hutton and curls in a lovely cross towards the head of Mitrovic, but Okore gets there first and makes an important intervention for Villa. Great defending from him.
L. Bacuna
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
Bacuna picks up a yellow card as he fouls Perez. The Newcastle forward gets clipped from behind on the counter attack by the Villa defender, who agrees with the referee's decision.
Dummett drives a diagonal cross towards Mitrovic who brushes off Lescott inside the penalty area, but he fails to bring the ball down as Bacuna runs away with possession for the visitors now.
Thauvin concedes a free-kick inside his own half and hands Villa another chance to try and pick out Gestede. The French forward is the target as Veretout curls in a cross towards him but Mitrovic heads behind for a corner.
BIG MISS! Perez latches onto a pass down the byline and as he drives a low cross towards Wijnaldum, the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder scuffs his attempt towards goal straight into Guzan's arms. Let off for Villa.
F. Thauvin
V. Anita
Newcastle United
McClaren makes his third and final change of the game for Newcastle today as he brings on Thauvin in place of Anita, who just made a really important block inside his own penalty area to thwart Gestede.
Bacuna engineers half a yard for himself down the left flank and curls in a cross towards the near post, but Mbemba heads it up into the air. As the ball comes down, Elliot punches the danger away and wins a free-kick as Gestede barges him over accidently.
CHANCE! Ayew drags Coloccini tight to him and then spins him with a cracking burst of pace but as he tries to pick out Gestede with a low cross, Anita makes an important block for Newcastle.
Ayew tries to get down the right-hand side for Villa but Dummett steals possession away from him. The Newcastle full-back finds himself with little room to manoeuvre into, though, as Veretout forces him to clear the ball out for a throw-in to the visitors.
Veretout bends in a corner towards the head of Gestede but Elliot rushes off his goal line and punches away the danger for Newcastle. It's backs to the wall stuff from the hosts at the moment and they need to be able to calm the storm.
Villa are in complete control of the game at the moment as they now have a target to hit in Gestede. The former Blackburn Rovers man is now getting the better of Mbemba time and time again.
J. Veretout
Assist
Aston Villa
Veretout registers the assist for Villa's equaliser. The ex-Nantes man curls in a cracking cross towards the back stick as Ayew goes on and does the rest emphatically. Game on at St. James' Park!
J. Ayew
Goal
Aston Villa
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLL!! It's 1-1 and Villa are back in it! Ayew picks up the ball inside Newcastle's penalty area from Veretout's cross towards him and as he gets half a yard on Janmaat, he bends a delightful shot into the bottom corner. What a finish!
R. Gestede
S. Sinclair
Aston Villa
Garde makes his first change of the game for Villa this afternoon as he takes off Sinclair, who fed on scraps up top today, and replaces him with Gestede to add more of an aerial threat to his side's attacking play.
SAVE! Hutton picks up the ball from Veretout down the right and plays a lofted cross towards Gestede, who gets above Mbemba with ease and forces a good save from Elliot. The Toon shot-stopper rises at full stretch to tip the Villa striker's header over the crossbar.
Ayoze Pérez
S. de Jong
Newcastle United
McClaren makes his second change of the game for Newcastle this afternoon as he takes off De Jong, who missed a great chance to double his side's lead a few moments earlier, and replaces him with Perez.
De Jong plays a cracking one-two with Mitrovic inside Villa's half but as the Dutchman looks to feed in an onrushing Wijnaldum, Okore reads the danger well and makes a good interception for the visitors.
WHAT A SITTER! Hutton stops still and looses tracks of Wijnaldum as the Newcastle midfielder picks up the ball unmarked down the flank and curls in a cross towards De Jong, who misses the target from just a few yards out.
Hutton chucks in a long throw towards Ayew at the near post but Dummett clears the danger away. De Jong tries to hold the loose ball up inside his own half but gets fouled by Okore as the referee awards Newcastle a free-kick.
Veretout bends in the resulting set play from the left-hand side of the pitch towards the penalty area. Dummett clears the ball back into the air with a header as Ayew smashes a shot from distance over the crossbar on the volley.
Veretout picks up the ball in the middle of the park but as he looks to try and curl in a cross towards the Newcastle penalty area, Anita gets in his face quickly and brings him down for a Villa free-kick.
De Jong bursts down the right-hand of the penalty area and clips in a cross towards the middle of the penalty area, but Lescott heads away the danger for Villa. It's been an end-to-end start to the second half here on Tyneside.
Welcome back! Villa get us under way again for the second half here at St. James' Park.
Lescott left Coloccini all alone inside the penalty area in the build up to Newcastle's opener. Hutton has been the one Villa defender who has played well so far today, cutting out a couple of Toon crosses as well as getting forward admirably.
Villa have kept possession well at times and had some spark in the final third, but yet again, their defending has been poor so far today. Garde's backline has lacked authority and leadership, always looking half a yard behind play.
The referee calls time on the first half as both sets of players get out of the pouring rain and head down the tunnel for the interval. Newcastle currently lead Villa by one goal to nil thanks to a coolly-taken finish by Fabricio Coloccini from a Siem de Jong corner.
HALF TIME: NEWCASTLE UNITED 1-0 ASTON VILLA
The fourth official on the touchline indicates that a minimum of one minute is being added on to the first half here at St. James' Park, as Bacuna curls a free-kick straight into the arms of Elliot.
Gueye marauds forward past both Sissoko and Janmaat for Villa but as he looks to open up an angle to test Elliot from distance, Mbemba brings him down and the referee awards the visitors a free-kick as a result.
Westwood bends in the resulting set play towards the near post but Dummett, who gave away the free-kick in the first place, heads away the danger for the hosts as they look to counter attack Villa now.
P. Dummett
Yellow Card
Newcastle United
Dummett picks up the first yellow card of the game for a foul on Hutton. The Newcastle youngster brings down the rampaging Villa defender with a mistimed sliding challenge and receives a booking as a result.
Hutton powers down the right-hand side towards the Newcastle penalty area but as he weighs up whether to get a cross in, Dummett whipes him out with a sliding challenge and hands Villa a free-kick.
S. de Jong
Assist
Newcastle United
De Jong grabs the assist for Coloccini's opener. The former Ajax midfielder curls in a low corner across the turf towards the Newcastle skipper, who sticks the ball beyond Guzan with a well-taken shot.
F. Coloccini
Goal
Newcastle United
GOOOOOOOOOOOAALLLLLLLL!! It's 1-0 to Newcastle! De Jong bends in a low corner towards the back post as Coloccini, who gets given far too much space by Lescott inside the penalty area, fires past Guzan from close range. Lift off for the hosts.
GREAT SAVE! Colback curls in a free-kick from the right-hand side towards the edge of the penalty area as an unmarked Mitrovic heads towards goal, and forces Guzan into making a top-drawer save. Corner to Newcastle.
It's still fairly even here at St. James' Park as both sides move possession around well respectively. Newcastle have probably created the more threatening chances but Garde's charges have looked decent on the counter attack as well so far.
A. Mitrović
P. Cissé
Newcastle United
McClaren makes his first change of the game for Newcastle today as he takes off Cisse, who appears to have picked up a hamstring injury while chasing a pass forward, and replaces him with Mitrovic.
CLOSE! Sissoko picks up possession in a lovely pocket of space down the right-hand side and smashes a low cross towards fresh subtitute Mitrovic, who fails to make contact with the ball as Villa launch a counter attack.
A short suspension in play occurs as Cisse hits the deck and requires medical attention. He tries to chase a long ball down the right flank past Lescott but pulls up as he tries to get into his stride.
Janmaat slips in Sissoko with a good pass and as the Frenchman runs towards the byline to keep the ball in play, he just about manages to drive in a low cross but Lescott stops Cisse from getting a shot off.
Ayew feeds in Westwood but the midfielder's cross gets blocked by Dummett and that sets Newcastle away on the counter attack. Janmaat feeds in Sissoko with a crisp through ball but Lescott sees the danger out for the visitors.
Hutton bursts down the right-hand side in all sorts of space and clips a cross towards Sinclair, but Coloccini makes the clearance for Newcastle. Villa stay in possession as Lescott tries to play in Ayew but Mbemba makes an interception for the Toon.
Janmaat picks up the ball down the right flank and looks to play in De Jong, but Bacuna cuts out the pass with a good block. Newcastle are moving possession around neatly at the moment while Villa are working hard without it at the same time.
Sanchez concedes a free-kick as he fouls Cisse in the middle of the park. Colback decides to take it for Newcastle but he clips a poor ball straight into the path of Westwood, who heads away the danger easily.
Dummett dips inside from the left flank and as he looks to bend in a cross towards Cisse, his effort takes a deflection off Westwood and flies into the arms of Guzan. Villa have made an okay start to this game.
Gueye gives possession away and that puts Veretout under pressure inside Villa's half, but the latter eases pressure on his side as he wins a foul off a charging Colback.
Colback curls in a cracking cross from the resulting free-kick towards Cisse heading towards the six-yard box, but Gueye rises highest and makes a good headed clearance for the Villans.
Janmaat wins Newcastle a free-kick just outside Villa's penalty area as Gueye repeatedly fouls the Dutch full-back when trying to seize possession for the visitors. Colback stands over the ball at the moment.
Hutton collects the ball from Okore and tries to play in Sinclair with a stabbed pass forward, but Coloccini anticipates danger well and clears the ball off the Villa forward for a Newcastle throw-in.
Janmaat, under pressure from Ayew, plays a backpass towards Elliot to keep Newcastle in possession. The Toon's goalkeeper punts a long ball forward towards the head of Cisse but it runs out for a Villa goal kick.
De Jong threads a through ball towards Cisse down the right flank but as the Senegal forward cuts inside past Lescott, he looks to play in Wijnaldum with a low cross but Hutton cuts out the danger for Villa.
Bacuna picks up the ball down the left-hand side and with options alongside him short, he tries to pick out Ayew with a long ball instead but it runs through into the path of Elliot.
Coloccini takes advantage of Villa's poorly-organised backline as he plays a lofted pass over the top of Hutton into the path of Wijnaldum, but the Dutchman sees his shot strike the side netting from a tight angle. Goal kick to the visitors.
Newcastle get us under way here at St. James' Park. The man in charge of the cards for today's affair is Martin Atkinson.
Both sets of players are now stripped and raring to go as they leave the tunnel and enter onto the field here on Tyneside. We are just moments away from seeing the action start to unfold.

TEAM NEWS: Remi Garde has made just one alteration to the team which started Villa's last league outing against Arsenal. Ashley Westwood comes into the first eleven in place of Rudy Gestede, who drops to the bench as a result.
TEAM NEWS: Steve McClaren has made no changes to the side which started Newcastle's 2-1 comeback win against Tottenham last weekend. Match-winning duo that day Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez both start this afternoon's game on the bench.
Newcastle picked up victories against both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in their last two games, the first time they won back-to-back matches since November 2014, while Villa haven't won a match since beating Bournemouth 1-0 on the opening day of the current campaign.
Today's match sees two teams near the bottom end of the table look to battle it out for a crucial three points in the festive season. The Magpies are currently unbeaten in their last two games, while Villa have just six points to their name and are 10 points adrift of 17th-placed Newcastle in the standings at the moment.
