David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’ second stint with AFC Leopards started on a wrong footing after a 1-0 defeat by Sofapaka, who moved top of the Kenyan Premier League table on Wednesday.
John Avire scored the lone goal at the stroke of half time to end AFC Leopards two-match undefeated run in the league.
Ugandan striker Umaru Kasumba delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right and Avire nodded home in the added minute, to hand Batoto Ba Mungu the lead heading into the break.
Dennis Sikhayi, who replaced suspended Isaac Kipyegon in the starting squad, went into the referee's book in the 26th minute in a physical first half as both sides tried to win the midfield battle.
Vincent Oburu cut through Sofapaka's defense but he was a bit sluggish allowing the visitors to clear the half-hour mark danger. Batoto Ba Mungu almost punished a napping Ingwe with a counter attack, but Victor Majid did well to save Casa Mbungo's men, who had blown a chance from a corner-kick.
Sofapaka, however, increased their tempo and after two quick throbbing, Ingwe defense finally caved in to pressure after Avira headed them into the lead in the 45th minute.
Ochieng, who signed a short term deal with the former champions. was given his second debut when he came on for Majid in the 73rd minute and he released Jeffery Awiti with a long cross in his first touch of the ball but Sofapaka quelled the danger.
Ingwe pushed for an equalizer, but Sofapaka stood their ground to snatch the three points, their third straight win since a 2-2 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz at the same venue on February 23.
