The Special Five: Jose Mourinho's five-star record in European finals

In 2004, in his very first press conference as a Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho called himself the 'Special One'. He had guided an underdog in Porto to the UEFA Champions League title and the Portuguese thought that he had every right to honour him with that famed moniker.

"Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm a European champion and I think I'm a special one," Mourinho said.

And 18 years later after several unceremonious exits from some of the biggest football clubs in the world, he continues to remain so. Not many thought that Mourinho would end up winning a European trophy with Roma in his very first season, especially after his dismal stint with Tottenham Hotspur. Nonetheless, the 'Special One' delivered on the big stage, once again, and maintained the 100 per cent win record in European finals.

The Roma fans had witnessed how the manager guided domestic rivals Inter Milan to the treble in 2010 and they hoped that if anyone can change their fortunes it has to be him. Hundreds turned up to welcome him to Rome, while a mural quickly appeared in the Testaccio quarter of the city depicting a smiling Mourinho wearing a Giallorossi scarf and driving a custom-made Vespa. And after the night in Tirana, there could be many more on the walls of the ancient city.

Mourinho became the first manager to reach a UEFA final with four different clubs and also the 'only one' to win all UEFA club trophies. Let us now take a look at his five European triumphs.
