Gor Mahia crowned champions v Simba.
Ahead of match-day 3 fixtures, USM Alger top Group D with 4 points while Gor Mahia and Rayon Sports are second and third

Gor Mahia will be going for their first win in Group stage of Caf Confederation Cup when they host Yanga of Tanzania on Wednesday.

Both Gor Mahia and Yanga are yet to win a match in the stage and are expected to produce a good show at Kasarani Stadium. The winner between the two sides will go second, if Rayon Sports of Rwanda fails to beat Group leaders USM Alger at home.

K'Ogalo has two points from two matches, and a win will take their tally to five and a possible first position if USM falls away.

  • Gor Mahia keeper Boniface Oluoch issues instructions to the back four at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Sunday.

    #1 Boniface Oluoch

The Kenyan keeper is the best bet to stand in K’Ogalo goal for the tricky tie against Yanga. He was in goal when his team beat the Tanzanian outfit 2-1 in the 2015 Cecafa Kagame Cup, and that is a morale booster already. However, of late the team has been leaking at the back, and this man has to ensure he commands his defenders effectively, and be alert at the goal to ensure he is not caught off guard.

  • Gor Mahia captain Haron Shakava

    #2 Haroun Shakava

For the first time in the continental assignment, Shakava will be partnering someone else in the heart of Gor defense. With Joash Onyango suspended, Shakava will be responsible in guiding Charles Momanyi at the back. But of late things have not been good at the back, team conceding goals at will. It is up to the captain to motivate his charges well and ensure they are motivated to stop any attacks.

  • Philemon Otieno of Gor Mahia.J

    #3 Philemon Otieno

With Earnest Wendo injured, Otieno comes in to shield the back four and shape the midfield.  He will play a vital role in controlling the tempo of the game. At times he has initiated attacks from his position, but again he will be needed to be alert and stop the opponents from doing so. Playing it simple but hard will be the best way to stop Yanga.

  • Francis Kahata of Gor Mahia fc.

    #4 Francis Kahata

In the Kenyan Premier League, a few players can do what Kahata does. He has that magical touch and is always brilliant on and off the ball. The main job for the player will be to unlock the Yanga defense and create scoring chances for his teammates. At times when everyone becomes physical and aggressive, Kahata is the one, who softens it by his pass and move philosophy.

  • Gor Mahia striker Francis Mustapha.

    #5 Francis Mustapha

The new K’Ogalo forward has hit the back of the net twice in three matches, and just maybe he will be the one to fill the big boots left by Meddie Kagere. However, he has to prove it on Wednesday against Yanga. He has shown that he can score goals when it matters and can help the team get maximum points to move top of the Group. But against Yanga, it will be a real litmus test for him.
