Jill Ellis' side have scored 20 goals and conceded just once on their way to reaching their last eight, and lead the outright market over the hosts

The Women’s World Cup is almost into the quarter-final stage and there is a clear frontrunner in the outright market.

888Sport go 6/4 (2.50) that the USA retain their crown ahead of their last eight clash with hosts France, having also lifted the trophy four years ago in Canada.

In fact, the Stars and Stripes have not lost a Women’s World Cup game in regular time since going down 2-1 to Sweden in 2011, although they did also lose the final that year on penalties to Japan.

They are 57/50 (2.35) to see off France on Friday, having won all three of their Group F games – including a record 13-0 over Thailand - without conceding a goal before recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Spain in the last 16.

Les Bleues, though, are 7/2 (4.50) second favourites and will certainly fancy their chances of upsetting the USA on the way to winning the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history.

France, too, won all three of their group matches, setting the tone with a 4-0 drubbing of South Korea on the opening night, before edging past Brazil in extra time on Sunday night.

Germany are 5/1 (6.0) shots after finding their stride. Yet to concede, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side followed up a pair of nervy 1-0 wins with 4-0 and 3-0 victories to really demonstrate their prowess.

That price actually looks quite generous considering they are on the kinder side of the draw. The Netherlands (9/1) are the only country who could potentially offer resistance according to the bookmakers, with Sweden (19/1) and Italy (25/1) both rank outsiders.

Italy beat China on Tuesday afternoon whilst Netherlands ousted Japan with an injury time penalty, with those sides facing off on Saturday afternoon. Rennes plays host to Germany and Sweden later that day in the other quarter-final on that side of the draw.

888Sport offer an industry-best price of 15/2 (8.50) on England ahead of their quarter-final clash with 22/1 (23.0) Norway on Thursday. The Three Lionesses fought their way to nine points in Group C before a bad-tempered win over Cameroon in the last 16.

Their 3-0 triumph over the African nation was marred by VAR controversy and poor refereeing, but it was still a dominant performance by Phil Neville’s side to record their biggest Women’s World Cup victory since a 6-1 thrashing of Argentina 12 years ago.
