Williams: Parker is good, but unfit to complement Paez at Kaizer Chiefs

In an exclusive interview with Goal, Williams said he doesn't think the former FC Twente is the ideal striker to partner Paez upfront

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mark Williams doesn’t see Bernard Parker as the right player to play alongside Gustavo Paez upfont.

The South Africa international has lost his pace over the past few seasons following injuries that really hampered his progress at the club.

“It’s not the same Bernard Parker anymore. When I say that it’s not because of his age, because he can still play the game, but you don’t want Parker to defend because at the beginning of last season that’s what he was doing most of the time," Williams told Goal.

Amakhosi are looking for someone to assist the Venezuelan and have even invited Argentine striker Jonathan Phillipe for trials.

“At the beginning of the second half, they put him more as a striker and he started scoring goals because Bernard Parker for me, is a good striker with a good eye for goals. The thing is, he's not going to give you 36 games in the running because the legs are not going to allow him,” said Williams.

According to Williams, Chiefs need to know when and how exactly to use the once-feared Bafana Bafana striker, who is fast approaching the twilight of his career.

“They need to know how and when to use him to get the best out of his last stages of his career. He needs to be told to stay in the opposition half because he is very intelligent and knows where the net is,” Williams concluded.
