Theo Walcott has returned to Arsenal's squad for Saturday's FA Cup fourth round match against Southampton, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The 27-year-old has been out with a calf strain since late December but recently returned to full training ahead of the weekend's cup clash against his former club.

Walcott could feature alongside Danny Welbeck, another player who has suffered with injury problems since joining Arsenal, and will be hopeful of getting game time at St Mary's.

"Walcott is back in the squad. Xhaka will be suspended and Elneny is at the African Cup of Nations," he told reporters on Thursday. "Per Mertesacker and Mathieu Debuchy are back in full training tomorrow."

Wenger admits the door is still open for wantaway French right-back Debuchy to leave Emirates Stadium this month due to a shortage of minutes available to him at the Premier League club.

"It is quiet but I say I don’t close the door [on Debuchy leaving] because there is competition on the right flank," he added.

“I don’t close the door, he is fully fit now to possibly have an experience now."

Arsenal have won their last five away FA Cup matches in a row but will be wary of Claude Puel's outfit after they knocked Wenger's men out of the League Cup in November.

Southampton are also riding on a high after eliminating Liverpool from the League Cup on Wednesday, reaching the final where they will face Manchester United or Hull City.
