Victor Wanyama’s name pulled off Tanzania street

Victor Wanyama’s names has been pulled off the Streets of Tanzania, just a few days after the Harambee Stars captain was honoured by Ubongo Municipal Council.

Reports from Tanzania indicates that the decision was revoked after the Municipal failed to follow “laid down procedure’ though local politics is also said to have played a part.

Wanyama was accorded the honours after attending as chief guest the final of Ndondo Cup between FC Kauzu and Faru Jeuri. The street is in Ubungo Municipal Council. The event which was graced by Kinondoni Municipal Mayor Jacob Boniface was met with mixed reaction by Tanzanian football fans, who were left divided right in the middle with some praising the move to honour the Tottenham midfielder while other questioned the decision.

Wanyama enjoyed a highly successful first season with Tottenham after making an £11 million move from Southampton last summer. He played 47 times in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and featured in all but two games as Spurs finished runners-up behind Chelsea in the Premier League
