Thamsanqa Mkhize ready to give his all for the Bafana Bafana cause

Bafana Bafana defender Thamsanqa Mkhize has promised to do everything in his power to help his national team beat Seychelles on Saturday afternoon.

The Cape Town City skipper was roped in by coach Stuart Baxter to replace Thapelo Morena of Mamelodi Sundowns, who has been ruled of the back-to-back 2019 Caf Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers through injury.

“I accept this call-up with gratitude,” said Mkhize as quoted by IOL.

“Any opportunity to represent my country is something I will always take great pride in. We’ve got a big task on our hands,” said the right-back.

“I will do all I can to help Bafana over the line. That’s my nature, and I’m sure the other players in the Bafana squad also feel this way,” Mkhize added.

The Citizens skipper is fresh from lifting the MTN8 trophy after beating SuperSport United in the final two weeks ago, and he will hope to bring a winning mentality to the Bafana camp.

In other news, Baxter has also called up City midfielder Gift Links, who replaces another Brazilians player in Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Aside from Mkhize and Links, Benni McCarthy's Citizens are also represented by Thabo Nodada as the nippy midfielder was called up to the initial squad.

“I’m very happy for Thabo (Nodada),” continued Mkhize.

“He’s a real fighter; he deserves to be in the Bafana squad as well. I know he will contribute immensely if given the opportunity to play,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the 1996 African champions will make their first return to FNB Stadium since their 3-1 win over Burkina Faso during the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in 2017.

Bafana currently occupy second spot in Group E, tied with the Mediterranean Knights on four points from two games.
