Swallows FC head coach Isaac Mphasane had to endure five games before getting into the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the confident coach said he respects The Team of Choice, and sees this as the right platform to for his players.
“Maritzburg is the PSL team, we are honoured. They are doing well in the league. They are experienced and have a lot of quality players. This one is the right platform, especially from ABC Motsepe," Mphasane told reporters.
“What I like at this moment I want to show some of the coaches from PSL and National First Division that there is a lot of talent in the ABC Motsepe,” he said.
Mphasane also acknowledges that it won’t be easy to compete with Fadlu Davids’ troops, but said he has been watching their games and knows what to expect.
“I been watching them beating a lot of teams in the PSL - Free State Stars and beating Bloemfontein Celtic - but this one is not going to be an easy game. Maybe they think they will beat us [by] four [goals], but I won’t accept that one,” said the Swallows FC mentor.
Swallows were relegated from the PSL in the 2014/15 season before they suffered another relegation in the National First Division the following year, but the new coach is determined that he will bring back the good old days.
Mphasane‘s focus is now on the Nedbank Cup, adding that: “At this moment, I think my boys are ready for this game, they are really motivated on carrying the responsibility and then next week I am going to focus on the league. I am going to do my best to good for the team, maybe Isaac Mphasane is going to make a difference.”
Meanwhile, Swallows team manager Matome Kganakga dismissed reports that the club has bought Cape Town All Stars' status, but he did confirm that talks there's movement behind the scenes to get the team back in the National First Division.
“At the moment‚ there were two bids for NFD teams‚ which nothing has been signed for – there’s no deal‚ but two teams have been approached. As soon as there is news to reveal we will definitely make a statement, because remember what happened with the previous encounter trying to acquire Free State Stars. So, we have to do things correctly and follow proper procedures. So, I would say let’s rather wait until there’s a deal‚ then announce,” said Kganakga.
