Samuel Chukwueze and Karl Toko-Ekambi were on the scoresheet as Villarreal handed a heavy 5-1 defeat to Real Betis in Friday’s La Liga game.
After losing against Barcelona in their previous outing, the Yellow Submarine hit the ground running with the African stars playing pivotal roles in the encounter.
Cameroon international Toko-Ekambi grabbed a brace in the game while Nigeria winger Chukwueze came off the bench to seal the victory for Javier Calleja’s men.
Having earlier missed a chance to open the scoring, Toko Ekambi eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, heading home Santi Cazorla’s cross.
Nine minutes later, Emerson levelled for the visitors but Spain international Cazorla was on hand to restore the lead for the Yellow Submarine in the 68th minute after Chukwueze was fouled in the penalty area.
With 14 minutes left to play, Toko-Ekambi completed his brace after he was set up by Gerard Moreno.
Quick-fire goals from Moreno and Chukwueze, who replaced Moi Gomez in the 57th minute, in the stoppage time sealed victory for the hosts at Estadio de la Ceramica.
The win moved Villarreal to the sixth spot in the league table with 11 points from seven games.
Chukwueze and Toko-Ekambi will be hoping to maintain their outstanding performances in their next league game against Osasuna on October 5.
