Senegal coach Aliou Cisse calls five debutants for Afcon trip to Madagascar

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has included five debutants in his 23-man squad for the trip to Madagascar next month.

With Horoya goalkeeper Khadim Ndiaye who guarded goal in all their three World Cup games being dropped, Cisse has handed a maiden call to France-born Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Olympiacos defender Pape Abou Cisse, Getafe midfielder Amath Ndiaye Diedhiou are other debutants together with Chateauroux midfielder Sidy Saar and forward Mbaye Diagne of Turkish side Kasimpasa.

Metz midfielder and former France youth international Opa Nguette as well as Ibrahima Mbaye make a return after being excluded from the World Cup squad.

Injured Barcelona new signing and Teranga Lions World Cup star Moussa Wague has failed to recover in time for the match.

Following an alleged dressing room bust-up with Cisse’s assistant coach Omar Daf at the World Cup, Diafra Sakho has been dropped together with Stoke City forward Mame Biram Diouf.

Other notable exclusions include Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji and Pape Alioune Ndiaye who were both at the World Cup.

Senegal are expected to start camp in Paris on September 3, before flying to Madagascan capital Antananarivo.
