Al Hilal managed to extend their lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League to 4 points with a late victory over Riyadh rivals Al Shabab in matchweek 21.
New signing Achraf Bencharki scored in the 5th minute when Gelmin Rivas’ strike from outside the box was parried by the goalkeeper towards the Moroccan, who took advantage of the rebound to open the scoring.
Saad Abdulameer cancelled out Al Hilal’s opener with an equalizer two minutes later. However, it was the missed chances that caught with Al Hilal throughout the game.
In the 20th minute, a golden opportunity was missed by Rivas as he skied the ball over the net. Yasser Al Qahtani then came on in the 55th minute as Al Hilal had won a penalty, but he struck into the goalkeeper’s hands to keep it at 1-1.
Nicolas Milesi, however, moved into attack and scored the winner for Al Hilal in the 85th minute with a powerful strike into the roof of the net to give Al Hilal the 3 points.
Al Ahli, currently in second place with 42 points, only managed to earn a point when they drew against Al Faiha. Ioannis Fetfatzidis opened the scoring in the 79th minute but Danillo Asprilla had other plans when he scored in the 85th minute with a great strike to make it 1-1.
Elsewhere in the league, 4th placed Al Nassr were thrashed 3-0 by Al Batin to stay on 31 points, with Al Faisaly moving up into 3rd place after a 2-0 win against Ohod thanks to a double by Rogerio Coutinho. Al Ittihad stayed still in 5th place, after a 0-0 draw with Al Fateh.
