Veteran Ghanaian coach Joseph Emmanuel 'JE' Sarpong is backing under-fire Bashir Hayford to stay on as Ghana boss despite his team's poor showing at the Africa Women Cup of Nations.
The Black Queens disappointed heavily at the championship on home soil, having failed to go beyond the group stage.
Their abysmal showing has heightened calls for the removal of head coach Hayford, who only assumed duty in August.
"I think we should leave Bash to stay on because you cannot blame him for our poor display in the competition," Sarpong told Joy FM.
"People always think he is arrogant but if you get to know him, he is a lovely person.
"We shouldn't rush in taking any decision which will later backfire.
"In my opinion, I think we should keep him."
After a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Algeria in their tournament opener, Ghana suffered a setback on matchday two by a 2-1 loss to Mali.
A 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their final group game ultimately proved inadequate as the Black Queens finished third on the table.
Hayford's outfit had hoped to win the trophy for a historic first-time after thrice finishing as runners-up.
