The Socceroos star struggled against Jordan and picked up an injury in the process

Australian midfielder Tom Rogic has broken a bone in his hand during the Socceroos disappointing 1-0 loss to Jordan in their Asian Cup opener on Sunday.

The Celtic attacker was one of the green and gold's poorer performers as he failed to spring a sloppy Socceroos into life.

Rogic had already been nursing a knee injury which saw him rested from Australia's final hit out against Oman and will now be assessed closely by Socceroos staff to determine the best way forward.

"First of all, every player's health is paramount to everything," Australia's assistant coach Rene Meulensteen said.

"I think there is a few scenarios they're looking at at the moment so we'll have to get the full scale of what we've got to do with that one...when he's got the ultimate results of whether he can keep playing or not."

While Rogic's injury appears to be only minor, the midfielder will likely be rested against Palestine on Friday night in a game the Socceroos must and really should win.

Injuries continue to plague Australia as they look to defend their Asian Cup crown with Aaron Mooy, Daniel Arzani and Martin Boyle all ruled out for the tournament.

Mathew Leckie and Andrew Nabbout meanwhile are nursing minor injuries and missed the Socceroos opening match against Jordan.
