We are expecting a high-scoring game when these two sides meet in Santa Clara and backing them both to score in the first half looks a shrewd bet

Real Madrid and Manchester United meet twice in the space of two weeks, with Sunday's game in the International Champions Cup the prelude to their clash in the UEFA Super Cup on August 8.

Certainly, it is United who should have a certain physical advantage having already played and won three friendly matches in the USA first against MLS opponents and then impressively claiming the scalp of Manchester City on Friday, whereas Sunday's game is Madrid's opening match of the summer.

Nevertheless, the European champions are favourites with Paddy Power pricing them at evens (2.00) for the win, while Jose Mourinho's men can be backed at 23/10 (3.30) to record a victory against the manager's former club.

These two sides met in pre-season three years ago in a game which attracted a record crowd for football in the USA, with United triumphing on that occasion by a 3-1 scoreline.

Neither side kept a clean sheet in Michigan three years ago, while United have conceded in two of their three friendly matches they have played so far this summer. Both teams to score is offered at the understandably short price of 4/7 (1.57), although those odds could still be big enough to include the selection in a multiple bet.

There could be more interest in the price of 11/4 (3.75) for both teams to score in the first half, and pre-season friendlies often see their tempo and rhythm disprupted in the second half when the manager's tend to make a number of changes.

Of course, one player who will be missing is Cristiano Ronaldo with the current holder of the Ballon d'Or given extra time off to recover after his heroic end to last season, and the Madrid forward line is likely to be somewhat experimental.

United, meanwhile, have seen big money signing Romelu Lukaku already open his account with the winning goal against Real Salt Lake followed by his opener against City, and the Belgian forward will no doubt feature again.

The Red Devils' three games so far have seen them score nine goals against solid opposition, and they are offered at 6/4 (2.50) to net over 1.5 goals against the Spanish champions.
