'Perfect player' Sancho set to make Dortmund a lot of money - Matthaus

Jadon Sancho has been hailed as “a perfect player” by Lothar Matthaus, with a £7 million ($9m) bargain expected to make Borussia Dortmund a sizeable profit in the transfer market.

The exciting 18-year-old forward has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last 18 months, with the decision to leave Manchester City in the summer of 2017 proving to be some springboard.

A switch to Germany was considered to be a brave leap into the unknown for a youngster who saw his route to first-team football blocked at the Etihad Stadium.

Sancho has seen his decision justified with regular minutes in the Bundesliga and a call-up to the senior England squad , with German legend Matthaus impressed by what he has seen from a talent destined to be involved in a big-money deal at some stage as he remains on an upward career curve.

The World Cup winner told The Sun : “He is a natural footballer, who loves to play on the left wing but has unbelievable talent.

“Sancho is a player who has everything. He has fantastic speed, great technique, a good eye for his colleagues and that key pass.

“Everything he does he pulls off at high speed at the right moment.

“For me he is a perfect player. The ability he has is instinctive, natural. You cannot teach that brilliance.

“What is clear is that he loves just playing football, loves the ball. He is not thinking about money, about the next Ferrari he can buy. He looks to have both feet on the ground.

“He arrived in Dortmund as a 17-year-old, leaving England for the first time. He was away from his home and family for the first time.

“Dortmund gave him time. Now, when he plays, he makes the difference and excites everyone.

“They bought him for only £7m. And they know that in three or four years’ time, when it is right for Sancho to move on, they will get an awful lot more than that.

“For the next two years he should concentrate on getting into the Under-21 side, play games and learn about international competition.

“That is better for his development than going into the senior squad and sitting on the bench.”

Sancho could get the chance to grace both the senior and U21 sides for England over the next few months.

He will be hoping to make his bow for Gareth Southgate’s team in upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Spain, while the Young Lions appear destined to be heading to next summer’s European Championship in Italy.
