Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 Bayelsa Queens

Nasarawa Amazons defeated Bayelsa Queens 1-0 in the opening match of the Nigeria Women Premier League Super Four tournament at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Monday.

Ugochi Emenayo's first-half strike from the spot helped the Lafia ladies pip the Restoration girls, who finished as group B winners in the regular season.

Having secured a 26th-minute lead through Emenayo, the 2013 winners held off a second-half challenge from the Bayelsa Ladies to claim maximum points.

With the victory, Christopher Danjuma's ladies are second on the log with three points and they will face defending champions Rivers Angels on Tuesday.


Delta Queens 2-0 Rivers Angels

Defending champions Rivers Angels bowed 2-0 to Delta Queens to begin their title defence on a poor note.

Coach Edwin Okon's side were favourites to claim the day but goals from Amerat Adebisi and Rosemary Okezie condemned the Jewel of Rivers to a losing start.

Delta who finished group A winners find a breakthrough when Adebisi fired them in front in the 33rd minute from a goalmouth scramble in the South-South derby.

Few seconds to the halftime break, Rivers Angels goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi had no answer as Okezie slotted home from touching distance on receiving a brilliant cross from Adebisi.

Despite ttheir effort to launch a comeback by throwing Chioma Wogu and Evelyn Nwabouku into the fray, Joy Jegede led Delta's defense kept them at bay.

The win keep Delta atop of the log with three points and two-goal advantage and they will battle Bayelsa Queens on their second match of the tournament.
