Nigeria's Ikidi and Malawi's Chawinga make Damallsvenskan award shortlist

The African duo made a three-woman shortlist for individual honours in the Swedish topflight league awards

Nigeria's Faith Ikidi and Malawi Tabitha's Chawinga have made the final three-person shortlist  for the best Sweden's Damallsvenskan defender and forward of the past 12 months.

The Super Falcons star, who had won the prize in 2015 has been nominated for the best defender award after she scored two goals and featured in all 20 games for Pitea so far this season.

The 30-year-old also hit 200th match appearance in the Swedish women topflight this season, becoming the first African to attain the feat having made her debut in 2004.

Aside from Ikidi, other nominees are former Linköping duo of Linda Sembrandt and Jessica Samuelsson, who had recently joined Montpellier and Arsenal respectively.

W le, Malawian international missed out on the prize in 2016 and has been listed as the best forward and Most Valuable Player with 23 goals in 20 games for Kvarnsveden this term.

Chawinga will battle Stina Blackstenius and reigning Fifa Women's Player of the Year Lieke Martens for the best forward award and as well contends with Filippa Angeldahl and Mia Persson for the MVP gong.

Voting for the winners ends on November 20, 2018 with the Damallsvenskan prizes to be awarded that evening at the Swedish Football Gala in Globen.
