Nigeria’s Emeka Obi signs pro contract with Wigan Athletic

The 17-year-old central defender has signed a two-year deal having impressed at the Latics’ Academy

Emeka Obi has signed a professional contract with English Championship side Wigan Athletic.

The 17-year-old defender has signed with the DW Stadium giants on a contract through June 2020.

Obi joined Wigan from Bury and has performed well for the club's youth sides, earning him his first pro deal.

“We have been tracking Emeka over the past couple of seasons and we are delighted to bring Emeka to Wigan Athletic on a professional contract,” said head of academy Gregor Rioch.

“Emeka is an exciting talent who has been monitored by a number of Premier League clubs and has settled in really well at Wigan Athletic.

"As a central defender, he is one of the brightest prospects of his age in the country”.
