Jose Mourinho has hit out at Manchester United's critics yet again in what appeared to be a dig at the club's former captain Gary Neville.
The ex-United defender was highly critical of the Red Devils in the wake of Monday's dramatic last-gasp 3-2 win at Crystal Palace, with Paul Pogba in particular coming under the pundit's scrutiny.
With a crunch clash against Liverpool coming up on Saturday, Mourinho has hit back at United's detractors, appearing to point the finger at Neville's own failed managerial stint at Valencia as a reason to not always listen to what influential analysts have to say.
“Some of the guys with an opinion couldn't resolve their own problems when they were managers, so they are giving opinions like they have solutions for everything,” the Old Trafford boss said on Friday.
“They're in a position where they can give opinions about everything. Sometimes I read and listen, sometimes I don't.
“This week I was more focused on enjoying the Champions League and the Europa League and preparing for my match rather than being focused on opinions [of others].”
For Neville's part, the former full-back is adamant that United are nowhere the level they need to be and look nothing like a solid, collective unit as we near the business end of the season.
“I've never seen a Jose Mourinho team as inefficient as this,” he said after United's display at Palace.
“They're always efficient, do things calmly, solid in defence. I don't recognise this as a performance, they're just individuals, they're not a unit yet.
“They have to come together quickly and finish the season strongly, but, more importantly, how are they going to get to a level that will see them compete with Manchester City next season?
“They are nowhere near that level.”
