Maxwel Cornet's brace helps Lyon hold Manchester City

Maxwel Cornet found the back of the net twice as Lyon held Manchester City a 2-2 draw in Tuesday's Uefa Champions League tie.

The 22-year-old who lamented his lack of playing time this season made it three goals in two outings against the Premier League champions after helping the Ligue 1 side hand Pep Guardiola's men their first defeat in the 2018-19 campaign at the Etihad Stadium back in September.

After a goalless first half, Cornet broke the deadlock courtesy of an assist from Memphis Depay in the 55th minute but Aymeric Laporte's effort put visitors back on leveled terms seven minutes later.

The Cote d'Ivoire international doubled his tally in the 81st minute with another assist from Depay but was short-lived as Riyad Mahrez set Sergio Aguero up for the City's equaliser two minutes later.

Cornet who is yet to start a Ligue 1 game this season was replaced by Martin Terrier in the 89th minute while Burkina Faso's Bertrand Traore was introduced for Nabil Fekir in the 84th minute.

The former Metz forward has notched four goals in 11 outings for Lyon including his first league goal of the season in their 4-2 win over Guingamp on November 10.

Lyon are second in the Group F standings with seven points from five games - three points behind Manchester City.

They will aim to secure qualification to the next round of the Champions League when they visit third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk for their final group outing on December 12.
