Yanga are all set to play against Algerian giants U.S.M Alger in the opening game of CAF Confederation Cup group stage on Sunday.
The game comes one week after their derby loss against Simba in the Premier League.
Although Yanga have met several Algerian clubs but this will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
The last trip for Yanga in Algeria was in April, 2017 were they played U.S.M Alger local rivals MC Alger and they ended up with heavy loss of 4-0. It was in the playoff round of this tournament.
U.S.M Alger are regulars when it comes to this tournament, they have not won the title but they regularly taken part in the competition.
For Yanga, this is not a new landmark for them, they have good experience when it comes to CAF tournaments.
Speaking to Goal, before the team departed the country last Thursday, Yanga promised a good fight against their opponents although they flew with “weak side”.
Yanga’s spokesman Dismas Teni said that, they have prepared the team well enough to give a good performance away from home.
“We have prepared ourselves well enough, we are very keen on the match and we want to give out good fight and secure a good result” said Teni.
Yanga have left the country without some of it's key players in their starting line-up. Papy Tshishimbi, Kelvin Yondani, Obrey Chirwa, and Ibrahim Ajib are all set to miss the clash.
Meanwhile, the long term absentees such as Amis Tambwe, Donald Ngoma and Thaban Kamusoko remain sidelined.
Yanga also flew without a senior fit forward. Teenager, Yohana Mkomola is expected to lead the line although he has not featured in any of Yanga’s matches since the begining of the year through injury. His last appearance came in December last year in the Mapinduzi cup.
