Mashamaite: SuperSport United are deserving PSL title contenders

SuperSport United defender Tefu Mashamaite says that he is not surprised with how new players that include himself have taken to coach Stuart Baxter’s philosophy.

“It’s not surprising. I mean, if you look at the quality of the players we have and the kind of coach we have, I knew if we understood the coach’s philosophy and just put it out there as a package it will be very easy for us just to be title contenders,” Mashamaite told Goal.

Given that Baxter came to Kaizer Chiefs and won the league in his first season, it is something that does not really surprise ‘Masha’ as he was a part of that 2012/13 league and Cup double too.

“It’s a bit surprising that it came so early. But it also happened at Chiefs when we won the league in the first season with the coach so I’m not really surprised,” Mashamaite said.

“I just thought that maybe with SuperSport it would take him a bit of time to build a formidable side, but the players have responded very quickly to his methods and philosophy,” Mashamaite added.

The 2015 South African Player of the Year demands that they maintain their consistency for the remainder of the campaign and keep pushing.

“We have got a good squad that can beat any team on the day so for me that’s a positive sign. We are deserving title contenders," he stressed.

“Whatever happens from now until the end of the season we just have to be consistent until the end of the season and keep pushing,” Mashamaite concluded.
