Earthquakes contact Gunn


The San Jose Earthquakes have made contact with Stanford head coach Jeremy Gunn about their managerial vacancy, according to

The Quakes fired Mikael Stahre on Sunday, as the manager did not even last a full season after being hired in November. 

San Jose has also been in contact with former Portland manager Caleb Porter, as well as Boca Juniors head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto. 

Beckham's Inter Miami hire business officer


David Beckham's MLS franchise Inter Miami have appointed Jurgen Mainka as chief business officer.

After revealing their name and logo, the club have confirmed that they have added to their front office by hiring the former CONCACAF director of marketing, who has also worked at the New York Red Bulls.

Tata Martino offered Atlanta United extension


Atlanta United have entered talks with Gerardo Martino over a contract extension.

The former Argentina and Barcelona coach's current contract expires at the end of the season and it had been reported that he was set to leave.

However, both sides have an option to extend the deal and Martino told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that it is being considered, adding: “It’s something we are going to analyze very seriously and take our time deciding."

Tuchel relationship with PSG sporting director breaks down


Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel's relationship with Antero Henrique has already collapsed amid growing pressure on the sporting director, says Le Parisien.

Tuchel has been left disappointed with the club's business in the transfer window and has had to use some of his players in unfamiliar positions so far. It is reported that he barely talks with Henrique and has grown frustrated with him,].

Thiago Silva seemed to put the blame for PSG's defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Henrique's shoulders when asked by reporters about the team selection after the game.

Hibs sign ex-Feyenoord defender Nelom


Hibernian have completed the signing of Dutch left-back Miquel Nelom.

Nelom, 27, made over 150 appearances at Feyenoord and spent the second half of last season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam before his release in the summer.

The two-time Netherlands international has joined the Scottish side on an initial one-year deal and could make his debut against Dundee on Sunday.

Verratti ready to leave PSG


Marco Verratti is considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, according to Calciomercato.

The midfielder has featured twice under Thomas Tuchel this season, missing the first Ligue 1 games through injury and the Champions League defeat to Liverpool because of a suspension.

But he worries that he does not fit into Tuchel's style and is open to leaving next year, making a return to Italy his preferred option.

Swedish star was too expensive for capital club

Roma icon Francesco Totti says he tried to convince Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join the Italian club.

The Swedish star was on of several top players Totti hoped to lure to the capital city to help boost their chances of Champions League success.

However, Roma could not afford to sign many of his preferred targets.

“I’ve always said you need champions to win," he said. “I hoped Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, the best players in the world would come...Unfortunately, we had a limit, we didn’t have the financial muscle to spend on these champions. Really, I tried to bring unthinkable people to Roma."

Lobotka eyes January move to Champions League club


Stanislav Lobotka has admitted he could leave Celta in January in search of Champions League football.

The 23-year-old midfielder only joined the Spanish side last year but quickly attracted interest from elsewhere and could have left in the summer transfer window.

And the Slovakia international has made no promise to see out the season with Celta as he hopes to play at a higher level soon.

"In the summer there were offers from different clubs, but I will play with Celta at least for half the season," he told reporters. "Everyone wants to play in the Champions League. I'm happy here and my focus is on doing well with Celta, then in January we'll see what happens."

Lille winger is attracting Europe's top clubs

Barcelona have admitted to a big interest in Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, Mundo Deportivo claims.

The 23-year-old, who scored a hat-trick against Amiens last week, had already caught the attention of Betis and Sevilla, while recent reports say Manchester United are tracking him.

And the Catalan side are the latest team to enter the picture, as director of football Eric Abidal has admitting that the Ivory Coast international is "very, very interesting".

Lyon chasing Monaco defender


Lyon are still pursuing a deal for Monaco defender Almamy Toure, Le 10 Sport reports.

Toure has not regularly been used by the principality side this season and has a deal that expires next summer.

James in hot water over hand gesture


Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has taken a dim view of James Rodriguez making a gesture towards Benfica fans during Wednesday's Champions League win over Benfica, according to Don Balon.

When being substituted, the Colombia star stuck five fingers in the air, apparently to remember the 5-0 win his Porto side were involved in against their Portugese rivals.

Kovac is angry with the midfielder over the action and could dish out disciplinary action.

Lopetegui will stick by Navas in Europe


Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui will retain Keylor Navas in goal for the club's European games this season, AS reports.

Thibaut Courtois was signed in the summer from Chelsea to become the regular No.1, but he will drop out for Los Blancos' European fixtures.

Lopetegui's plan was confirmed as Navas gave a solid account of himself against Roma.

Juventus have missed out on the chance to sign Genoa midfielder Nicolo Barella, Calciomercato reports.

AC Milan and Inter are hot on the 21-year-old's trail, while Monaco also have an interest, but the Turin side turned down the chance to sign him previously.

His currect deal expires in 2021, while it is expected he will be given a two-year extension that will see his release fee jump to €130 million (£116m/$152m) from its current level at €110m.

Icardi's goal against Tottenham on Tuesday further confirmed his importance to the club.

PSG have lined up €100m Rakitic summer bid


Paris Saint-Germain made a €100m (£89m/$117m) summer bid for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, Onda Cero reports.

However, Barca were unmoved by this approach, which came in €25m short of the midfielder's release clause.

Rakitic remains under contract until 2021.

Seattle Sounders fans will have their say on the direction of the club, with the club's Alliance Members - registered supporters - to vote on the retention of Garth Lagerwey.

Central Coast Mariners sign McCormack and Oar


Scottish forward Ross McCormack has joined Australian Tommy Oar as new signings for Central Coast Mariners, the club announced on Wednesday.

McCormack joins on a one-season loan from Aston Villa after previously featuring for Fulham, Leeds and Cardiff.

Oar, meanwhile, agreed to a two-year deal after terminating his contract with Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.
