Leon Balogun has scored the second quickest goal by a substitute in the English Premier League this season.

The defender was on target – his first in the English elite division – in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-1 triumph over Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Balogun made an instant impact by finding the net with his first touch 25 seconds after his introduction following the expulsion of Shane Duffy.

And that effort earned the Nigeria international a slice of Premier League record.

The second quickest by a substitute after Daniel Sturridge’s goal versus West Ham United – a feat achieved after 24 seconds.

The former Mainz man almost moved from hero to villain after handing the visitors a penalty after a foul on Wilfried Zaha.

The kick was converted by Luka Milivojevic, though it was nothing but a consolation as the 10-man hosts held firm to secure maximum points.

Brighton have now won six games this term and are ranked 10th with 21 points in the Premier League log. They travel to Burnley for their next game on Saturday.
