Leeds United target Baghdad Bounedjah sets goalscoring record in Qatar Stars League

Al Sadd forward Baghdad Bounedjah has become the first player to score 28 goals in a single Qatari top-flight season.

The 27-year-old scored two goals - his third brace in four matches - in his side's 4-1 victory over Al Shahania to take his tally to 28 goals in 14 matches.

His efforts at the Al Arabi Stadium shattered Clemerson Soares’ record of 27 goals during 2007-08 league season for Al Gharafa.

The former Etoile du Sahel attacker has now scored 57 goals in 2018 including 13 efforts in 12 AFC Champions League matches and six goals for the Algerian national team.

Al Sadd are second in the Qatari Stars League table with 35 points from 14 matches - one less than leaders Al Duhail.

Bounedjah's blistering form in front of goal has caught the attention of European clubs and he remains a transfer target for Championship side Leeds United and Ligue 1 outfit Marseille who are looking to strengthen their attack in the January transfer market.
