Shocks, thrills, spills and excitement! This is what the global showpiece event is all about and on Sunday, fans were treated once more to unexpected results with several memorable moments.
However, there can only be two KFC Moments of the Day.
KFC Moment 1
Passion, drive and talent!
Mexico completely stunned their opponents especially in the first half as El Tri’s Hirving Lozano found the back of the net by displaying great skill as he beat the defender before putting the ball past Manuel Neuer for a goal which proved to be decisive.
While victory against Germany on any given day should be celebrated the fact that the win came up against the world champions made victory even sweeter.
But while Lozano’s goal was out of the top draw and surely cemented his name into Mexican football folklore, the impressive manner in which the side from Latin America went about doing their business is our KFC Moment of the Day.
Who can forget the image of Javier Hernandez in tears following the final whistle as the Mexicans celebrated a famous win. This was the fruits of their blood, sweat and tears as every member of the squad including veteran Rafael Marquez left everything on the field and were deserved winners of the game.
KFC Moment 2
Brazil look to have finally found their mojo after several years of underperforming at the elitest level of football and the way that Philippe Coutinho expertly curled in his strike from outside the area against Switzerland, epitomises Brazil’s over-the-top Samba style.
While the goal may have not been enough to secure all three points in Brazils' opener, the beauty and satisfaction of watching a wonder strike like that of dynamo glancing off the woodwork and hitting the back of the net while a despairing keeper is left beaten hands down, is something to savour.
