Nasarawa United head coach, Kabiru the Dogo has dedicated their 2-1 win against George Turnah in the Federation Cup Round of 64 to the victims of the gas explosion in Lafia on Monday.

The Solid Miners scaled through to the Round of 32 where they have a date with Standard FC of Kaduna in Jos on Sunday but the tactician said he was left unhappy at the incident that happened at the state capital when a gas plant exploded killing about nine persons and injuring over 20 people.

He said even though they won the game against the Bayelsa State representatives their hearts and thoughts are with the victims of the gas explosion and that they pray that will give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss while also wishing in those with injuries in the same explosion accelerated healing.

“It was a painful one for us as we faced George Turnah in Enugu aware of the incident that has claimed the lives of some people back home in Lafia,” Dogo told Goal.

“It was sad that such incident could happen in broad daylight. We are dedicating our FA Cup win to the victims of the gas explosion and we pray that God will give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the reparable loss. We also pray that God will heal those that sustained injuries in the explosion.

“We are happy to qualify to the next round of the Federation Cup but our victory has been overshadowed by the gas explosion and we have all been thrown into mourning mood. It was an incident that should not have happened.”

Nasarawa United were losing finalists in the 2016 Federation Cup after their loss to FC Ifeanyi Ubah on penalties and they are billed to face giant killers, Standard FC on Sunday in Jos for a place in the Round of 16. Standard of Kaduna bundled out reigning league champions, Lobi Stars last weekend in the Round of 64.
