Former Ghana international Solar Ayew has tipped his nephew Jordan Ayew to be the next African player to clinch Fifa World Best award.

The 26-year-old currently plies his trade at Swansea, with his uncle claiming the family is grooming him to replicate the feat of former Liberia and AC Milan superstar Oppong Weah, who became the first and only African player to win the Fifa's prestigious award in 1996.

Ayew's father, Abedi 'Pele' Ayew won the African Player of the year on three consecutive times between 1991 and 1993 but couldn't claim the global award.

“As for Jordan Ayew, I can say without doubt that he will be the next Oppong Weah to win the Fifa World Best from Africa”, Solar told Sunrise FM.

“The family is grooming him and we want to keep him on a low key, but the target is for him to win the World Best soon, which is within his reach,” he added.

Ayew, who made his debut for Ghana in September 2010 against Swaziland, has scored 12 goals in 46 appearances and has been named in the 26-man squad to face Congo in the Fifa World Cup qualifiers next month.

He previously played for French clubs Olympique Marseille and Sochaux as well as Aston Villa in England.
