Jobe Modou tops Gambia squad for Algeria clash

Gambia new coach Tom Saintfiet has invited 17 foreign-based players for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria at home early September.

El Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper Jobe Modou tops the list of players plying their trade outside the West African nation called up by the Belgian tactician to join three unnamed home-based players.

Other regulars also invited are Watford midfielder Sulayman Marreh, Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, Reading forward Modou Barrow and FC Midtjylland defender Bubacarr Sanneh.

The invitation generating huge reactions in the announced squad is the maiden call-up of Atlanta youngest Musa Barrow following the 19-year-old forward's breakthrough in the Italian Serie A.

The notable omission from the list is Guizhou Hengfeng striker Bubacarr Trawally in spite scoring nine goals this season and featured in the Scorpions’ opening qualifier 1-0 loss at Benin.

The invited overseas-based players are expected to resume camp on September 3 ahead of their showdown with the Fennec at the Independence Stadium, Banjul five days later.
