Jesse Were scored his 17th goal of the season in the Zambian Premier League in Zesco United’s 2-0 win over Nakambala Leopards on Saturday.

The Kenyan international and Lazarus Kambole were both on target as the Team ya Ziko ripped apart the Leopards.

Were, who has been named in the Harambee Stars squad to face Ethiopia in the Afcon qualifiers, is just two goals shy of the top scorer, Idris Mbombo.

Mbombo, the Congolese forward has scored 19 goals for Nkana FC thus far. Were opened the scores early in the second half before Kambole sealed the lid with a few minutes later to help Zesco open a six point gap between them and second-placed Nkana FC.

Zesco United have 78 points, followed by Nkana FC (68), Green Eagles (65) and Green Buffaloes (65).
