Italy and China meet in Montpellier on Tuesday afternoon for a place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup.

These two sides last met in a friendly back in December 2015 when the Asian side won 2-0, but they could have their work cut out to record a similar victory here.

Latest Odds

Indeed, 888Sport make China 14/5 (3.80) to reach the last eight for the seventh time in their history, keeping up their record of making the quarter-finals in each World Cup they have been involved in.

Italy have reached that stage just once, having done so back in 1991, but are 59/50 (2.18) to do it again here in normal time. The draw, which would trigger extra time, is 2/1 (3.0).

Team News

Both sides have a full complement of players at their disposal. Cristiana Girelli scored a hat-trick for Italy against Jamaica and is 21/10 (3.10) to find the net again in this one.

Preview

Italy were perhaps the surprise package of the first stage, coming top of a group that also featured Australia and Brazil by stunning the Matildas 2-1 in their opening game.

Milena Bertolini’s side followed that up with a 5-0 drubbing of Jamaica before losing 1-0 to Brazil thanks to a second-half penalty, and another close affair could be on the line.

Just two of the Italians’ goals in the group stage came before the break, both of which came against Jamaica who shipped 12 times in total, whilst China’s defensive discipline is the reason they are in the knockouts.

Two of the Steel Roses' three group games were goalless at half-time with the other being 1-0, and they will look to keep things tight again as they look to reach the last eight once more.

Tips and Predictions

Under 0.5 first half goals is priced at 11/8 (2.38) with 888Sport and that looks a solid way to get involved in the match at Stade de la Mosson.

Only Germany teenager Giulia Gwinn has managed to breach China’s defence this tournament, whilst their attack has offered very little and could struggle to get on the scoresheet here.
