Jamshedpur FC have appointed Cesar Ferrando Jimenez as their head coach for the upcoming 2018/19 season. The former Atletico Madrid coach takes over from Steve Coppell who has opted to join Kolkata-based ATK

The Tata Steel-owned franchise, who had finished fifth in their debut season in the Indian Super League (ISL) last year and were knocked out of the quarterfinals of the Super Cup, parted ways with British coach Steve Coppell couple of months back.

Ferrando has a vast experience in managing, having coached several Spanish clubs. His most notable stint was with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the 2003-04 season where they finished 11th in the league and reached the semifinals of the prestigious Copa Del Rey.

He has also managed famous Spanish clubs like Elche and the reserve side of Valencia.

The 58-year-old has also managed in Asia. He was in charge of Malaysian giants Johor Darul Ta'zim. He joined the club in October 2013 and managed the side in the Malaysian Super League 2014 season. Midway through the season though, the Spaniard was relieved of his duties.

Jamshedpur have retained only three foreign players from last season - experienced Spanish defender Tiri and midfielders Memo and Wellington Priori. They have also retained star Indian players like Subrata Paul and Bikash Jairu.

They have roped in Raju Gaikwad, Subhashish Roy Chowdhury and last year’s I-League sensation Michael Soosairaj.
