After missing out on silverware clad in Mumbai City FC’s blue, Brazilian Gerson Vieira is ready to challenge for the title, this time in ATK’s colours.
The defender also revealed that Steve Coppell’s appointment as head coach played a key role in bringing him to Kolkata.
“I am very confident. My only expectation is to win the title. I want to be a champion. That's my mission.”
“ATK are two-time champions. It is a pleasure to play under (coach) Coppell. He is a great individual and a fantastic coach. Coppell is an amazing person and in the last thirty days, I have learnt a lot. I am also excited about the crowd.”
Vieira feels that there is hunger among the young Indians to prove a point. He also spoke about the partnership he is developing with new signings Andre Bikey and John Johnson.
“Bikey, Johnson and I have a healthy relationship. We push each other harder. Even with the youngsters, sometimes I help, sometimes I am being helped. There is a lot of hunger among the Indians.”
Playing against a quality opponent like Fulham in pre-season was a learning experience for the former Mumbai City man.
“Fulham is a top team and they play in the best league in the world. We learnt a lot playing against a top quality side. In the preseason, it is important to know each other and get in shape, now we are prepared. I am excited to be back in India and the entire team is feeling exactly the same.”
