Imenger Jr: over the moon after Rivers United win

The Pride of Benue’s striker who came from the bench to grab the match-winner is delighted with his feat.

Lobi Stars’ striker, Barnabas Imenger Jr has expressed his delight at his lone goal which handed all points to the Pride of Benue in their feisty league tie with Rivers United on Friday in Makurdi.

Imenger Jr struck four minutes from time to turn back stubborn Pride of Rivers back to Port Harcourt empty handed and the first son of the former Super Eagles’ striker, Barnabas Imenger was full of praise for his teammates and the coaches for his important first goal of the season.

The former Kano Pillars’ player was introduced in place of Tony Okpotu who missed a penalty kick during the match with about 16 minutes to the end of the encounter and he made his introduction count when he nodded home the match-winner from Solomon Kwambe’s cross in the 86th minute.

“I was over the moon immediately the ball went in because it was such an important goal to the team. We had done everything within our reach to grab maximum points but all seemed not to have worked. When I was going in, I said within myself that football is played for 90 minutes and with the remaining minutes it was still possible for us to score which we did,” Imenger Jr told Goal.

Lobi are now third on the league table with 39 points from 25 games after the win over the Port Harcourt side.
