Having been close to signing with Atletico before inking a new deal, the striker now affirms that none other than Real are interested in him

Racing Club wonderkid Lautaro Martinez has admitted that he has received an offer from Real Madrid

The 20-year-old striker has established himself as one of Argentina's top talents in the last 12 months, after bursting onto the scene with his club and with Argentina Under-20s.

Martinez scored both of Racing's goals in a 2-2 summer friendly draw against Independiente on Friday, and is an outside bet to make Jorge Sampaoli's Argentina squad for the World Cup.

But even the youngster himself confessed that fielding a call from the European and world champions caught him off-guard.

"I found out this morning about Real Madrid's offer, I couldn't believe it. There is still nothing concrete yet, though," he explained to TyC Sports on Wednesday.

Martinez had been strongly linked to Madrid's rivals Atletico in December, with reports even suggesting he had signed a deal at the Wanda Metropolitano.

A new contract in January, however, has seen his release clause at Racing rise to $20 million, and he is determined to stay put.

"A lot of offers materialised and I decided to stay," he added.

"To play the Copa Libertadores with Racing is something I need to do and I want to do that, midway through the year we will see what happens.

"But right now I am not letting myself think about anything except giving my all for Racing."

Martinez missed the start of the 2017-18 season with a metatarsal break, but came back with four goals in six Superliga games to match Lisandro Lopez as Racing's top scorer before the Argentine summer break.
