Gor Mahia are mourning the death of their former defender Charles Handas Otieno ‘Soja’, who passed away on Tuesday at Nairobi West Hospital.
Handas played for Coast Stars, Re Union and Gor Mahia as a defender before turning to be a football referee.
Gor Mahia CEO Lordvick Omondi Aduda has paid tribute to the football legend for the great contribution to the sport in the country.
"On behalf of Gor Mahia fraternity and on my own behalf I wish to send my deep condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Charles Handas. We will greatly miss his contribution,’’ he told Goal.
Aduda, in his eulogy said that even after retiring from active playing career, Handas did not stop from participating in football activity. He participated in reviving the annual Koth Biro tournament which provides an opportunity for players to keep themselves fit.
Aduda further appealed to the football fraternity to join hands in the effort of offsetting the pending medical bill as well as the funeral expenses for the deceased.
Before his demise the management of the annual Koth Biro tournament and the deceased family called upon well-wishers to assist in settling a hospital bill of Sh200,000.
