Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has come clear on why he selected Wellington Ochieng ahead of Karim Nizigiyimana in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Rayon Sports.
The former Muhoroni Youth man was at fault for the Rwandan side's early strike, and was totally outplayed for the entire match. The Englishman says he should be held responsible for the outcome and not his players.
“I selected Ochieng ahead of Nizigiyimana because the latter has no match fitness; he has been out for quite some time following the injury and we have not had time to shape him because of congested fixtures. My selection was entirely based on training performances and match fitness.
“It was just a bad day for Ochieng and that does not make him a bad or worse player, it is me who should be held responsible for the loss,” Kerr told Goal.
Despite the defeat, Gor Mahia still leads Group D with eight points, same as second placed USM Alger, who lost by the same margin to Yanga.
