Nasarawa United’s Kabiru Balogun has expressed his feelings after helping his team to the semi-final of the 2018 Federation Cup.
The striker stated that the joy of scoring the crucial goal that landed his team a last four ticket overwhelmed him with emotions after their victory over El Kanemi Warriors on Thursday in Aba.
The game was almost heading towards a goalless draw at the regulation time when Balogun struck at the death to save his teammates the agony of penalty shootouts and the former Ikorodu United and Kano Pillars attacker said that he was thrilled and was unable to curtail his excitement.
“It was a goal that I will continue to remember for a long time because it earned us a place in the semi-final of the FA Cup,” Balogun told Goal.
“We kept on working hard in our game against El Kanemi Warriors even though both teams have lost many scoring chances. I knew that we could do something different that would take us to the next stage and I am happy that the opportunity fell on me. It was a tough game and we were happy that we qualified.
“I was almost close to tears when I saw the ball at the back of the net because many people at the stadium thought the game would be going to the penalty kicks because of the many chances that were created and missed by both teams. We are through to the semi-final now and are expecting a good game against Enugu Rangers in Kano.
“I have heard about the exploits of Nasarawa United in the Federation Cup and I am glad that I am part of this team now. I know that we can add our own wonderful story to the history of the club. We are only two games away from the final and we must play the best game of our lives.”
