The draw for the semi-final matches of the 2018 Federation Cup has been determined and two exciting fixtures are on the card in Kano and Lagos on Wednesday next week.
Nasarawa United will eye another place in the final for the first time since 2016 when they were narrowly beaten by FC Ifeanyi Ubah when they face Enugu Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on October 10 while Katsina United will await the winners of Kano Pillars and Enyimba in the other semi-final tie fixed for the Agege Stadium, Lagos.
Kano Pillars and Enyimba will both negotiate for the last semi-final ticket on Sunday when they trade tackles at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.
The fixture was delayed because of the People’s Elephant’s participation in the Caf Confederation Cup where they are already at the semi-final stage. Enyimba will strive to regain momentum after their Wednesday home loss to Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the first leg of their semi-final encounter.
If Enyimba are able to surmount Sai Masu Gida they will be involved in another blockbuster fixture in the last four with Katsina United in a repeat of their group stage tie which the People’s Elephant won 1-0 through the goal of Sunday Adetunji.
A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation and Coordinator of the Federation Cup, Emmanuel Adesanya revealed that plans have been concluded for the semi-final to hold without hitches at the fixed dates.
He said the Football House is working towards having the best Federation Cup competition this term and very soon plans earmarked for final will be unfolded to the public.
“We are expecting a hitch final round as we approach the semi-final stage of the competition. The last quarter-final game will be played on Sunday in Gombe when Kano Pillars face Enyimba,” Adesanya told Goal.
“We are not just stopping at the semi-final preparations alone. We are also looking forward to a fruitful final in both the Men’s and the Women’s final. We have known three semi-finalists in the Men’s while the Women’s category has all the semi-finalists already.
“We are making consultations on what we must do to make the final more exciting and appealing better than the previous ones. We shall unfold our plans as soon as we are concluded on them.”
Akwa United who are the defending champions of the competition were thrown out on Wednesday by Enugu Rangers who beat them during the penalty shootout in Kano after a 1-1 draw at the end of the regulation time.
