Fandi Ahmad was bullish ahead of Singapore’s encounter with the Philippines tomorrow.
“We will chase every ball and press the Philippines because against a team like that we can’t sit in as that would be dangerous,” mentioned the 56 year-old at the pre-match press conference in Bacolod.
Fandi is also happy of his team’s underdog status; which was down to their poor performance in the last two editions of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
“We are very happy to be labelled as underdogs due to our performances in recent years including in the past two AFF Championships.”
“However now we have committed and disciplined players and we will fight to reach the next phase of this competition.”
Alongside Fandi was forward Faris Ramli who believes Fandi’s impact has been a positive one on the team.
“The morale in the camp is good. Coach Fandi loves to play attacking football and has made us all motivated.”
“Coach has a plan tomorrow when we face the Philippines and we will do our best to carry it out.”
On a coaching level, Fandi will be coming up against a famous in Sven-Goran Eriksson after the Swede was appointed as coach of the Azkals.
“It is an honour going up against him (Sven-Goran Eriksson). I am hoping we can compete against him.”
“We may have the advantage over him because he may not have much time to prepare and does not know this region as well as us. That could reduce his chances of winning.”
