In a survey that registered over 26,000 worldwide votes, 10,006 (approximately 38.3 per cent) have backed the Stamford Bridge side to lift crown, having lost it to Leicester City last term. As the Blues currently hold a five-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool, this finding is perhaps not surprising.

Fewer than 20% of voters (5,109) believe that Jurgen Klopp’s men are capable of surging into first by the end of the campaign.

Despite this statistic, the Reds are well backed in the UK. Although the 19% backing them for glory is in line with the global trend, they are second favourites in the eyes of the domestic audience – albeit with Chelsea enjoying a greater lead out at 40%.

Manchester United’s recent strong run of form has seen a surge in confidence from readers, with around 6,000 holding the belief that Jose Mourinho’s men can rally from 10 points behind in sixth to regain a title they last won in 2013. On a worldwide scale, that puts them second in the running.

On the other hand, Arsenal might be placed fifth ahead of the Red Devils, but only 2,365 voters are backing Arsene Wenger’s team to stage a comeback that would break a Premier League duck that now stretches back over 10 years.

Still, the Gunners can take some consolation from the fact that they are still better supported than fourth-placed Manchester City (1,380 votes) and especially third-placed Tottenham (1,178).
