The Sky Blues have been unable to turn positive performances into wins as yet in Asia

Not once, not twice, but three times Sydney FC managed to throw away a lead against Shanghai SIPG last time they met in the Asian Champions League.

That match was on home soil and now the Sky Blues must find a way to secure all three points in China to give their ACL campaign a much-needed boost.

Steve Corica's side currently sit bottom of Group H after two draws and one loss with Sydney FC left to rue dropped points on their own turf.

"We should have won one of those games – especially the home games we played pretty well – but we didn’t get the three points and that’s the part that sucks a bit," Siem de Jong said.

"It’s going to be a difficult one, but we still believe in it. We believe we can play well against these teams.

"I think we’ve shown it in all the games, but it’ll be tough game going to two away games and then another home game.

"We want to go through to the next round and of course it’ll be tough. We played well but didn’t get the points at home."

Having watched his side fall short last time out against a star-studded Shanghai outfit, Corica is confident Sydney can replicate their performance and secure an upset.

With second spot wrapped up in the A-League, the Sky Blues coach admitted their sole focus for now is on the ACL.

“We thought we should’ve won in Sydney but they came back at the end," Corica said.

“We are focused on this competition. We have one game to go in our local competition and we can’t finish higher than second.

“So our main focus is this game.”

A win against Shanghai could propel the Sky Blues up to second in their group, while a loss would leave their hopes of progression hanging by a thread.
