The People’s Elephant goal-poacher has braced up his teammates to be poised for tough two legs encounters with the South African champions

Enyimba striker, Stephen Chukwude has charged his teammates to be ready for war against Bidvest Wits of South Africa whom he described as a tough side ahead of their Caf Confederation Cup, playoff round ties on the weekend of April 6-8 and 17 or 18 of the same month.

The People’s Elephant defeated Energie FC of Benin Republic 5-2 on aggregate to qualify for this stage while The Clever Boys (being nickname of Bidvest) lost to Club Desportivo Primeira de Agosto of Angola 3-2 on penalties after 1-1 aggregate and Chukwude disclosed that the way they lost indicated that they would be hard to beat.

The fact that they were eliminated from the Caf Champions League only on penalties showed that they are a good side that cannot be ignored and we must have respect for them if we are to pip them to the group stage ticket,” Chukwude told Goal.

“We must be ready for both legs and even though we have an advantage that the return leg would be played in Calabar, we must not toy with it knowing that they are coming from the South African league that has become a popular league on the continent.

“We are fortunate we have league matches to get us prepared for the task ahead. We must be physically strong and mentally ready for both games.”

The People’s Elephant are not new to playing South African oppositions having faced Ajax Cape Town (2005), Orlando Pirates (2006) and Mamelodi Sundowns (2016). They have won two, drawn two and lost two in the six previous encounters that took place in the Caf Champions League alone.
