Bruce Bvuma ready to battle Itumeleng Khune for Kaizer Chiefs' No.1 jersey

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says he is ready to challenge first-choice keeper and captain Itumeleng Khune for the number one spot.

The 22-year-old Amakhosi keeper is with the South African national team in Limpopo for this year’s Cosafa Cup tournament which got underway last Sunday.

As he prepares to don the Bafana Bafana shirt against Madagascar this weekend in the quarter-finals, the former MultiChoice Diski Challenge net-minder said he is hoping for regular game time at club level.

With Brilliant Khuzwayo leaving the club, Bvuma said the gap leaves a room for him to get game time, but he will see what happens when the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League season begins.

“Well‚ I can't comment on something that I'm not sure about yet‚" he is quotes as saying by Timeslive.

“As a player you always set goals for yourself. So, whether he is still there or not does not mean I’m not going to play‚ or something, but it is an opportunity for me to get more game time. We set goals for ourselves in terms of doing this and this and that,” continued the 22-year-old.

“But you never know - we'll see what's going to happen," he added.

With age still on Bvuma's side‚ the goalkeeper said age doesn’t matter as he wants to play for the Glamour Boys.

"I can't really say that. I'm actually champing at the bit to play. There's no one who doesn't want to play‚" added the keeper who was promoted in 2017.

"It doesn't matter whether you're 16‚ 20 or 25 - you always want to play because that's where you'll express yourself and see yourself and the level that you are at," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg-born keeper earned his first Bafana debut during last year’s Cosafa Cup in Rustenburg‚ keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against the Zebras of Botswana.

On the other hand, he will compete against SuperSport United’s Reyaad Pieterse and Khulekani Kubheka of Mamelodi Sundowns for the number one spot in the regional tournament.
