Bloemfontein Celtic sad to lose Kabelo Mahlasela to Kaizer Chiefs

Mahlasela earned his dream move to the Glamour Boys of Soweto on Wednesday on a two-and-a-half year deal

Bloemfontein Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco explained they did everything to convince Kabelo Mahlasela to stay put rather than head off to Kaizer Chiefs.

“Yes, we have lost one sensational player in Mahlasela, whom we negotiated with to remain at Celtic but he was set on joining Kaizer Chief and we wish Skipper all of the best. Our plan is to make sure we solidify every department with quality players, hence the arrival of such diligent players,” Konco told the club’s website.

Mahlasela has earned his dream move of playing for the Black and Gold, who beat off competition from their rivals Orlando Pirates to land the player named ‘Skipper’.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions since Serame Letsoaka handed him his debut in the 2015/16 season, while he  found the net four times for Siwelele in his three-year stay.

The deal saw Amakhosi defender Lorenzo Gordinho join on a one-year loan deal and has been hailed by Konco as a solid acquisition that will bring stability to an already stern defence.

“Lorenzo has proven his worth since his first PSL appearance. He is such an industrious and a resolute type of defender. Signing him will bring more stability in our already reliable defence,” Konco said.

Celtic have had an impressive start to the season to date, reaching their first cup final since 2012 despite ending on the losing streak to Bidvest Wits in Umlazi.

Meanwhile, the club have parted ways with former Pirates winger Khethokwakhe Masuku after he fell down the pecking order under Veselin Jelusic.
