“My players just never listen to simple instructions. Things like, keeping the ball at your feet, you know. We get so many chances and we don’t punish them, which happens too often with this team,” McCarthy said post-match.
The Citizens were denied maximum points at the Mbombela Stadium against SuperSport United, when Azubuike Egwuekwe fired home an added time equalizer.
“Now it’s getting to a point where I don’t maybe speak a proper language or perhaps I need to learn to speak another language so that my players can understand because they don’t do the most simple basics right,” McCarthy said.
“They play well, but we just let too many teams off the hook too many times. It’s either we lose or we draw, but life goes on what can you do,” McCarthy added.
SuperSport coach Eric Tinkler believes they were lucky to come away with a point.
“I don’t think we pitched for the races today. Yes, in the first 10-15 minutes, we had chances to score but after that it was all Cape Town City,” Tinkler said.
“We were lethargic, too slow on the ball. Too many players underperformed today. We were too slow and nearly got punished for it. I think we are very lucky to leave here with a point,” Tinkler added.
